About AFPI: The Academy of Family Physicians of India (AFPI) is a national professional organization committed to advancing the field of family medicine and primary care in India. AFPI is the representative specialty/ academic body of the largest number of practicing doctors in India. AFPI represents all primary care doctors namely family medicine specialists, family physicians, general practitioners, medical officers in government service, family medicine faculty who constitute almost 80 percent of all medical doctors in India. AFPI invites all medical doctors trained/ educated/ engaged/ interested in family medicine/ general practice/ primary care. AFPI offers academic as well as professional development platform to all doctors within the domain of family medicine and primary care.We are dedicated to building a strong community of family physicians who deliver high-quality, patient-centered care across the country. Membership Categories:
1. Life Membership:
● Eligibility: Open to qualified family physicians or medical graduates with a postgraduate degree or diploma in family medicine.
● Benefits: Lifetime access to all member benefits, including professional development, networking opportunities, and AFPI events.
2. Associate Membership:
● Eligibility: Open to medical graduates, residents, and healthcare professionals interested in family medicine and primary care.
● Benefits: Access to CMEs, workshops, AFPI conferences, and networking events at a discounted rate.
3. Student Membership:
● Eligibility: Open to undergraduate and postgraduate medical students interested in pursuing family medicine.
● Benefits: Access to educational resources, mentorship programs, and opportunities to attend AFPI events at discounted rates.
Membership Eligibility
Given the developing status of family medicine specialty / discipline in India; Life Membership is open to medical doctors based on two criteria (i) by qualification (ii) by experience. List of academic qualifications as given in the following section. Any person qualified to be a Life Member may enrol as a Life Member of AFPI after paying one time non‐refundable fee Refer to Appendix I for detailed eligibility criteria. Services Doctors: Services doctors belonging to the Armed Forces are eligible to join AFPI. AFPI is recognized by DGAFM office and mentioned in the list of approved association/ society / professional body at serial no 24.22. PIO (Persons of Indian Origin) and Non-Resident Indians can join as life members however as per society’s act only persons holding Indian passport shall be eligible for voting and holding any elected position.

AFPI Approved Post Graduate Family Medicine Qualifications
● DNB Family Medicine
● MD Family Medicine
● Obtained three years of DNB/MD Family Medicine Training Certificate
● Diploma Family Medicine
● Family Medicine – Trainee / Resident MD/DNB
● Indian citizen working in India/ outside with International Qualifications such as Collage Membership or Board Certification (a) MDGP Nepal (b) MD Colombo Sri Lanka (c) College Membership Canada/ UK/Australia/ New Zealand (d) Board Certification - USA ( e) Equivalent qualification in any country MRCGP International
● PGDFM Family Medicine – CMC Vellore
● Fellowship in Family Medicine- St John’s National Academy of Health Sciences
Qualification by experience for working professionals
● Working family physicians
● NHM Medical Officers
● Central Government Medical Officers
● Doctor from Armed Forces Medical Services
● Medical Officers from Paramilitary Forces
Qualification by experience for working professionals
● Three years of experience in Family Practice.
● Two years of rural service (Compulsory bond/ or with in government sector)
● Three years of service in NRHM as General Duty Medical Officers (GDMO)
● Three years’ service as Armed Forces Medical Services or Para Military Services as General Duty Medical Officers
● Three years’ service in state health services as General Duty Medical Officers
● Three years of service CGHS (Central Government Health Services)
● Three years of RMO experience in private sector
Other Eligible Qualifications

● Designated Faculty at Department Family Medicine Faculty - Any PG qualification
● MD Geriatrics
● MD Community Medicine with interest in Family Practice
● MS Rural Surgery
● MD/DNB (Maternal and Child Health)
● PGDFM (Maternal Child Health) IGNOU
● PGDFM Geriatrics IGNOU
● AIFH (Associate Fellowship in Industrial Health)
● Diploma or Degree/ Palliative Care
Membership for Other Specialties and Subspecialties
Persons of other specialists whose qualification is not mentioned in the above list are eligible for Life Associate Membership only.

Step 3: Submit Your Application
● Submit your completed application form online or via email at membership@afpionlinenational.com. You will receive a confirmation once your membership is processed.
Step 4: Begin Your AFPI Journey
● Once your membership is confirmed, you will receive a welcome package that includes access to AFPI’s online resources, a calendar of upcoming events, and your membership ID.
